Sally,
I wrote you earlier today to express gratitude for your cloumns in general but in looking for a recipe moments ago, I ran across this column I had saved b/c it so expresses our very own “full hearts” in sharing the very life events you highlighted! In fact we will have had all three experiences this month by the time Carl gathers all the family around next Saturday to perform the wedding of one of our precious nieces! ( And this just happens to be falling on the week-end of our daughter & son-in -law’s first anniversary!) Our hearts are very full as well!

Dear Sally,
I am one of the fortunate receipients of “Pause.” I look forward to it eagerly and wanted to express my thanks to you for taking the time to write each day! My husband is a UM minister serving in the Western NC Conference and although you and I have never met, if we were to do so, I believe we would be friends! So often you speak to what is on my heart …wonder, joy, struggle, questions and assurances. I frequently save portions of your writings and also share with friends when there is something I believe will touch their hearts as you so often touch mine. Today I especially appreciated your mentioning compassion, justice, humility, and kindness as an avenue towards wholeness for ourselves and thus, the world. We attempt to use those principles as a guide in our ministry. I also appreciate the fact that you seem to find deep joy in your ministry as do we on most days! Bless you for sharing! I am much the better for what you give!

Aren’t they the greatest? I have a couple boys in my group who shared their talent of “double jointed” finger acrobatics! I think they would be impressed by an eyeball shaker– so would I!

I wish to confess (wish it were anonymously too) a love to…sweat and experience true heat. I love these days because I return to the days of my youth when we didn’t have air conditioning in Alabama, when I hated it and didn’t appreciate the suffering and the cleansing of my pores. You don’t know what you got ’til it’s gone.

How sad that now “Pursuit of Happiness” sounds like just another tag line in an adverstisement.
